Wikipedia entry for Mount Isa Mines

Approaching Mt.Isa the landscape changes from flat to pleasantly hilly. The bush is friendly, quite varied. Suddenly the big chimney comes into view, moments later we are between shops and supermarkets. Not a touristy place at all, rather a working town. The caravan park too is only partly for tourists. Permanent residents have created cosy corners with a lot of greenery. After just about giving up on real travellers we spotted a heavily loaded posties bike. The owner turned out to be about 60, lots of hair, beard and belly; travelling to all corners of Australia for a few months every year.
